BX

Happy Citroën BX owner, welcome!

As you probably already know, the Citroën BX is an automobile produced by the French manufacturer Citroën between 1982 and 1994. It was the last car to be equipped with the green hydraulic spheres, a hydraulic suspension system that was developed by Citroën in the 1950s. 2,135,332 BX sedans were equipped with them.

BX Berline, Sport or Estate, a few lines on this Citroën legend:

Designed as standard with its hydropneumatic suspension with constant ground clearance (whatever the load), the Citroën BX has some physical particularities, such as the single windscreen wiper at the front, and its lightweight body, for reduced fuel consumption.
- At the beginning of 1983, there were 5 different BX models: BX (6 CV, 1,360 cm3 62 hp at 5,500 rpm), BX 14 E, BX 14 RE (7 CV, 1,360 cm3 72 hp at 5,750 rpm), BX 16 RS and BX 16 TRS (7 CV, 1,580 cm3 90 hp at 6,000 rpm), for 11 color shades. Then at the end of 1983, the XUD9 1,905 cm3 65 hp at 4,600 rpm diesel engine appeared, installed on the BX 19 D and BX 19 TRD, with power steering as standard.
- Then in 1984 came the BX 19 GT, which had the XU9 1,905 cm3 105 hp at 5,600 rpm engine with a double-body carburetor.
- 1985 saw the appearance of the BX Leader, a special series limited to 2,500 units, then the famous BX Sport with an engine developing 126 hp at 5,600 rpm. You know, the one with the new wing extensions and the "BX SPORT" logo! Then came the BX Break.
- In 1986, Citroën launched PHASE 2 of the BX. New design and softened, rounded lines.
- In the summer of 1987, we said goodbye to the BX Sport, and hello to the BX GTI 16 Valves, featuring the brand new XU9J4 1,905 cm3 engine with double overhead camshaft, 16 valves (4 per cylinder) of 160 hp. Its multi-valve engine reaches 218 km/h and is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds. It is also the only Citroën with specific BX spheres equipped with optional ABS (later quickly abandoned for the classic BX spheres).
- In 1988, the BX turbo diesel arrived, the most powerful diesel car in its category.
- Until 1989, the BX was the only French vehicle to offer a model with a hatchback. And from 1989, Citroën BX was now available in a 4x4 version!
- From 1993, the BX will slowly give way to the CITROEN XANTIA
