What is the purpose of the hydraulic fluid?

MHL = Mineral Hydraulic Liquid. The LHM is a green brake fluid which is also used for the power steering and the hydraulic system of the suspension spheres. Used on your Citroën (until the appearance of the C5), as well as on some Rolls Royce (with a levelling system), this liquid is an essential part of the braking system which serves as a transmission. How to check the LHM level on my CITROEN XANTIA / XM / GS / BX / CX / SM ?

We recommend you to check your LHM level every 10.000km, for safety. Know that a problem of LHM leakage, and thus a too low level, will directly impact the power steering, then the suspensions (first rear, then front) before decreasing your braking quality.

To check the level and refill the LHM fluid, you must leave the engine running and place your suspensions in the high position. The small level indicator has two marks. The level should be between the two. Never exceed the upper level.

It is recommended to drain the system every 30,000 km, and to bleed the brake system every 2 years.

Can this green hydraulic/brake fluid be used on my CITROEN C5?

No, on the Citroën C5 and C6, the fluid used is LDS. The brake circuit is a classic circuit and therefore does not require the same products. The grey spheres = LDS, the green spheres : LHM ! Find our range of LDS fluid on sale in our store.

What is the difference between LHM oil / liquid and LHM + ?

The MHL + is an improved version of the classic LHM. It can be adapted to all Citroën models including this liquid, even the oldest. On the other hand, on vehicles such as Xantia Activa, XM, and models under hydractive II (cars including the variable damping system), only the LHM + can be used.
